Weekend

We went to our first Bottom 40 party on Friday night - if you can't tell from the picture, the theme was Dance Yourself Fit. So much fun to dress up crazy, go out with friends and dance your booty off to some kickin' tunes. While 1990s aerobics videos play and the bar regulars stare at you like you've dropped in from another planet.

(I took my share of pictures, but some naughty puppy ate my camera cable. Oooo, he sure is lucky he is cute and cuddly... and photogenic)

Paper Planes

A short video Matt made of our Art Prize experience today. Rob Bliss threw 100,000 paper airplanes over the closed streets of Grand Rapids. While an orchestra played Olsen Olsen by Sigur Ros. The colors and excitement were unreal.

I cannot get over how alive the city is - and I don't even know how to begin to pick my favorite artwork (let alone see it all) out of the 1,256 pieces being displayed.

Sushi Party

Last night, we made sushi with the wonderful Steph and Brad.

I love sushi. I love all things homemade. I love learning how to cook traditional foods!

We ate until we were stuffed, and talked the night away.

There's not much better than delicious food with great people.

Art Prize Takes Grand Rapids By Storm

Spent the afternoon wandering GRap checking out all (actually, just some) of the outdoor ArtPrize exhibits. So excited for the big kick-off tomorrow. Our little city will finally feel like the big one we want someday, if only for a couple of weeks. Many people were wandering the streets already, taking pictures and exploring. Heard other languages than English for once, too.

And yes, that is a giant Loch Ness monster in the Grand River. It's name is Nessie. And it's only the beginning!

We were blogged!

Just found out our wedding was featured on The Bride's Cafe, one of the blogs I followed religiously while planning. So excited!!

Mad Men

I am officially, apologetically obsessed with Mad Men. I love the glamor, the clothing, the dialogue, all of it. I cannot wait each week for the each new episode to come up in the iTunes store.

Suddenly, all of my shopping has been twinged with a new mantra: "What would Betty Draper wear?" or "Where would Don sit?" (Like I said... I'm obsessed!)
We don't have a couch yet, and I find myself drawn to these amazing Mid Century couches. Despite the fact that we have a destructo-puppy, and love slouchy furniture, I can't stop lusting after these couches!
We saw this one at Urban Outfitters last weekend. I want it.

And don't even get me started on Joan Holloway.

I think if I had either of these dresses, I would totally channel Mad Men. Found them on Planetclairevintage's etsy shop. Ah! But if I had these dresses, I would need to have more cocktail parties. All the time.

I was definitely born in the wrong decade.

Busy, Busy

It's laundry night in our household. We put it off as long as possible, until we're out of pretty much everything. Then we lug our overflowing laundry baskets down to the local laundromat. And spend copious amounts of quarters doing HUGE loads of laundry. In the end, it only takes a couple of hours and the people watching is pretty great. And I get a chance to read my book in a place where I won't fall asleep (unlike in my bed) which strays from the norm.

The school year is in full swing, and Matt and my days are busy and tiring. Today I lead group all day. This means I got to be in my classroom instead of at the office or in my car. But it also means I see three groups of 6 or 7 two-year-olds with various disabilities for a preschool-like session. It's exhausting, but fun. I'm getting into the swing of this whole new job, and beginning to feel like I have my feet under me.

We spent the past weekend visiting my in-laws. We went in order to take our parents to a Tiger's game, as our big "you guys are awesome for helping with our wedding" gift. Although we tried to stay away from all of the crazy traditions of the wedding industrial complex, we wanted to do something special where we could all be together again. We all had fun, but it was exhausting coming home after a weekend away and jumping right back in the swing of things. I'm still tired today.

Labor Day Weekend

This past weekend was incredibly restful - lots of husband time, the first two seasons of Mad Men, hikes and time in the sun with friends, dinner with my parents and other peaceful times.

This past weekend was incredibly restful - lots of husband time, the first two seasons of Mad Men, hikes and time in the sun with friends, dinner with my parents and other peaceful times.

In other news, today was my first official day with little ones in my classroom! It went fabulously - I work with an amazing team and there's nothing like watching groups of two-year-olds with disabilities experience their first day at school! I got lots of hugs and kisses blown in my direction, and only a few tears (mostly from parents). I'm going to really love this job.

Came home to an awesome package with our wedding picture cds and Polaroids inside. We have the best photographer. Ever. I'll post a few favorites later.

How was your labor day weekend?

Amazing picture of the Milky Way over Easter Island. Breathtaking. Someday, we'll go there. From National Geographic.
